How to Recognise An Original Mastic?
That’s a tricky question. If you know the typical smell and taste, you can easily recognise original mastic from the island of Chios. Otherwise, use common sense when buying. So which mastic gum is best? The original!
It’s the mastic from Chios!
The mastic resin used in supplements that contribute to the normal function of the digestive system is the resin of the Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia tree. This tree grows in many places around the Mediterranean, but only the Chios variety yields the true, authentic mastic.
Chios mastic is a unique 100% natural product. Today it is used not only as a natural chewing gum, but also processed into mastic powder.
As a food supplement
Mastic powder is packaged into capsules that you swallow; once the HPMC capsule dissolves, the mastic is released directly in the stomach. The powder can also fill sachets, which you take by mouth with water — so the mastic is released first in the mouth and oesophagus, then in the stomach.
Mastic Strong&Pure — capsules · 100% mastic powder, no additives
Mastic+ Prebiotic — capsules · mastic powder + inulin (prebiotic)
Mastic+ Vitamin D3 — capsules · mastic powder + inulin + vitamin D3
Mastic Comfort — sachets · mastic powder for oral use
Mastic Vital Double Action — capsules · mastic oil + probiotics

How to recognise original mastic gum
Certificate of origin
Always choose mastic from the Greek island of Chios. On the island you can buy it anywhere; elsewhere, make sure the seller has a certificate of origin. Masticlife always uses authentic, PDO-protected Chios mastic.
Price
Avoid suspiciously cheap products (e.g. from some overseas marketplaces). Resin sold as “mastix” for industrial use is often only suitable as an additive for glues and paints — not for consumption.
Aroma
A mastic crystal has a distinctive, unmistakable aroma, somewhat like herbal pine.
Taste
Mature mastic has a sweet but distinctly woody taste.
Frequently asked questions
How can I recognise original mastic gum from Chios?
Look for a certificate of origin confirming it comes from the island of Chios. Original mastic also has a distinctive pine-like aroma and a sweet, woody taste. Avoid suspiciously cheap products, which may not be authentic.
What forms of Masticlife supplements are available?
Mastic Strong&Pure (100% mastic capsules), Mastic+ Prebiotic (mastic + inulin), Mastic+ Vitamin D3 (mastic + inulin + vitamin D3), Mastic Comfort (sachets), and Mastic Vital Double Action (mastic oil + probiotics).
How is mastic released from the supplements?
Mastic powder in capsules is released in the stomach once the capsule dissolves; sachets release the mastic in the mouth and oesophagus first, then in the stomach.
